CGPA rules to know
VU passing rules reported: minimum 20 percent formative, minimum 20 percent final, minimum 40 percent aggregate. Confirm the VU handbook.
CGPA moves slowly in later semesters because old credits stay in the calculation. One strong final semester lifts CGPA by a few hundredths, not by a full point. Use the target planner on the target CGPA calculator to see the real number.
Multi-semester CGPA example
| Semester | SGPA | Credit hours | SGPA times credits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Semester 1 | 3.20 | 16 | 51.20 |
| Semester 2 | 2.80 | 15 | 42.00 |
| Semester 3 | 3.70 | 17 | 62.90 |
| Total | 48 | 156.10 |
CGPA equals 156.10 divided by 48, which is 3.25. A plain average of the three SGPAs would give 3.23, which is wrong because the semesters have different credit hours.
